Below follow just a few of the basic principles we apply when developing a successful & thriving tennis facility:
Tennis for All
We believe that tennis is a sport that should be played by everyone, irrelevant of age or ability. Our outreach programmes bring tennis to children from 5 years old upwards whilst we are always keen to involve local youths. We are also particularly committed to involving adults in tennis, especially those who either have not played since their school days, or those who believe that tennis is an elitist sport.
Community Tennis Facilities
By building tennis facilities at the heart of the local community and by ensuring that pay-and-play courts are available at all times, we are determined to give the sport as wide an appeal as possible. With strong links to educational establishments and community organisations, the tennis centre can play a vital role at the heart of the local area.
More than just a Summer Sport
Indoor facilities, although useful during the Winter months, are extremely costly and difficult to obtain planning permission for. Whilst we would welcome the opportunity to run a facility with indoor provision, we believe that it is still possible to build a successful all-year-round outdoor programme. Indeed, we see it as a vital part of playing any sport that participants learn to do so during inclement weather conditions. It is interesting to note that over the past 10 winters, our outdoor coaching programme has only experienced an average cancellation rate of less than 7%.
The most important aspect of any outdoor programme is that there are as many floodlit courts as possible.
Affordable Membership
In order to survive financially, every tennis facility needs a core membership. We believe that by making the membership fees affordable & realistic as well as offering a personal & professional service, we can create a solid membership base. It is also fundamental to our philosophy that children have equal booking rights to adults and that there is no dress code.
Schools Outreach Programme
Our experience has taught us that building strong links with nearby schools is the only way to build a long-term future for a tennis facility. A Schools Outreach programme that provides curriculum-time coaching to all children in a particular age group is a proven method for involving large numbers of children. If this is followed up by after-school clubs and then an exit route into an organised club-based development programme, this provides a solid foundation for involving as many children as possible. By coupling this outreach programme with experienced talent identification skills, it is also possible to identify the most gifted individuals and provide them with a route into performance tennis.
Something for the Family
In an age when both children and parents are incredibly busy, we believe that a local tennis centre provides the perfect hub for all members of the family to derive a great deal of enjoyment, both seperately and together.
